Why We’re Sick and Tired: It’s The Government

It is clear that the healthcare system in America is broken. Americans are the most unhealthy we have ever been despite spending more on healthcare than any other nation in the world.

Big Pharma

The entire system has been captured by big businesses focused on treating symptoms rather than curing underlying causes of illness. It’s more about selling medications and therapies than helping people achieve and maintain good overall health. It’s driven by money and profit instead of care and compassion.

Many blame this on greedy capitalists, but the real root cause is the failure of democracy and government.

The U.S. government has long abused and misused its power to pervert the healthcare system and the medical profession. By interfering in the economics of medicine and healthcare, it has created perverse incentives and moral hazards which are now raging out of control.

Healthcare and physician education have been completely captured by multi-national corporations whose sole aim is to create and push more and more drugs upon the American people.

Bad Food

This goes hand-in-hand with the corporate capture of the American food system, in some cases by the same companies that dominate healthcare. These corporations control food production and nutrition, pushing highly processed nutritionally poor foods which are destroying our bodies. Highly processed foods lead to all sorts of ailments such as obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, fatty liver, depression, anxiety, dementia, and much more.

Using chemistry and technology, these companies create foods that are highly addictive, cheap, and widely available. Many are advertised as health foods or healthy alternatives, tricking the uninformed public into consuming poisonous chemicals and excess calories.

This is not a failure of capitalism. It’s a result of abuse and misuse of the power and influence of government.

Bad Government

By misusing its coercive power to tax and spend, regulate, and subsidize, the U.S. government corrupts markets and enables corporations to write their own rules to profit from the sickness, misery, and impoverishment of the American people. Agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, along with industry functionaries like the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, and others, are largely funded by corporate interests and used by them to influence the nutrition and healthcare choices of the public who trust them to provide truthful and reliable information and guidance.

Politicians and bureaucrats who run the government have utterly failed to serve and protect American citizens. They have failed to fulfill their foremost duty to secure and preserve our unalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We have become sick and malnourished victims of multinational corporations and irresponsible self-serving politicians.

Victims No More

It’s time for Americans to wake up, rise up, and demand change. We need to take charge of our own health and refuse to be used and abused any longer.

We should question everything – every government edict and recommendation, every product advertisement, every food label, and every word of so-called “experts.” We need to think critically, ask questions, and educate ourselves on subjects that matter in our everyday lives. In this age of information availability, there is no excuse to remain ignorant and helpless.

Nothing is as important as our physical and mental health. We must not allow it to be stolen and destroyed.

Be well.
